About Campaign
Kalpavriksha Welfare Society is establishing a computer learning center in Mim Tea Garden, Darjeeling, to equip underprivileged youth with essential digital literacy and technical skills. Your contribution helps bridge the digital divide, providing tea garden youth with education that opens doors to sustainable employment and career advancement.
Why Digital Skills Matter for Tea Garden Youth
Economic Transformation
The traditional tea garden economy offers limited career paths, while the digital economy provides diverse opportunities regardless of location. Learning computer skills opens doors to careers in data entry, virtual assistance, digital marketing, and various IT-supported roles.
Breaking the Cycle
Most tea garden families have worked in the same occupation for generations. Digital literacy creates a pathway for youth to pursue alternative livelihoods while remaining connected to their communities, helping break cycles of economic limitation.
Entrepreneurial Possibilities
Beyond employment, digital skills enable young people to start small businesses, access online marketplaces, and connect local products with global consumers—creating economic opportunities that benefit entire communities.
Cultural Preservation with Modern Tools
Computer skills allow youth to document and digitally preserve their unique cultural heritage while connecting with broader opportunities, creating a bridge between traditional knowledge and contemporary careers.
Purpose of this Campaign
In the remote tea gardens of Darjeeling, young people face limited educational and career opportunities. While the digital revolution transforms the global job market, many youth in Mim Tea Garden and surrounding areas lack even basic computer access or skills, severely restricting their employment prospects and economic mobility.
This campaign aims to establish a fully-equipped computer learning center that provides structured technology education, mentorship, and career guidance to youth from tea garden communities. By developing digital competency, these young people can access a wider range of employment opportunities beyond the traditional tea garden economy.
Goal of the Campaign
We aim to raise ₹500,000 to establish a sustainable computer learning center serving 100+ youth annually from Mim Tea Garden and nearby communities. This includes:
- Creating a fully equipped learning facility with 10 computer workstations
- Developing a comprehensive digital literacy curriculum from basic to advanced skills
- Training local instructors who will ensure program sustainability
- Providing career counseling and job placement assistance
- Establishing internet connectivity in a region with limited digital access
